Sasha Thabo

I am Sasha Thabo. I hold a social science degree in International Relations, Media Studies and Political Science from the University of the Witwatersrand.  My passion for content creation and tech persuaded me to complete courses in Digital Media and Communications, Word Press as well as a TEFL certificate.  More so, was the pleasure of being a participant of the ASRI FLP 2020/21 cohort.  This is a graduate programme for individuals aspiring to be in the civil service. Our learnings include law, governance, political theory and work-based learning which has played a significant role in gaining skills and kick starting my career.

After I completed a social Sciences degree from the University of the Witwatersrand, I had the pleasure of being a participant of the ASRI FLP 2020/21 cohort. Being part of the programme allowed me to engage with individuals and organisations from the civic space such as Section 27 and the Social Justice Coalition. As a result, I became more self-conscious and a critical thinker.

The program is a continuous learning experience consisting of theory and practical elements. These contributed to my personal growth such that I was able to gain new skills for example, operating a word press site. Furthermore, the practical aspect of the programme gave me the opportunity to kick start a career in Communications at Equal Education. I think that the programme will empower me to be a change-maker in my community and outside in eradicating poor living standards faced by many South Africans.

Being part of the programme allowed me to engage with individuals and organisations from the civic space such as Section 27 and the Social Justice Coalition. As a result, I became more self-conscious and a critical thinker. My mind has constantly been stimulated to think about sustainable solutions to everyday socio-economic challenges. The programme has personally equipped me with skills that I can use in the workplace and thus contributing to a certain level of confidence. My work-based learning has been with Equal Education as a Communications intern. This has been an eye-opening experience. It has exposed me to content creation, on the ground activism in different parts of the country, as well as interaction with other stakeholders in a fight for a just society when it comes to education. I think that the programme will empower me to be a changemaker in my community and outside in eradicating poor living standards faced by many South Africans.
